Ballroom Gallery: Beverly Seamans (1928-2012), “Bringing Life to Bronze” – Sculpture & Watercolors
This Retrospective of the renowned and beloved Marblehead Sculptor’s work was presented by her son, John Seamans. A granddaughter of John P. Benson, notable marine painter and the great niece of American Impressionist painter and printmaker Frank W. Benson, Mrs. Beverly Benson Seamans was a long time member of the Marblehead Arts Association and many other local arts associations. She belonged to the Copley Society of Boston and was a Fellow of the National Sculptor Society in New York City. She had a successful career as an Artist here on the North Shore of Boston and her work has become internationally known. She studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and also with George Demetrios in Gloucester and Peter Abate, a founding member of the New England Sculptors’ Association. Her work is in many private collections and such public collections as Beverly Hospital, Wellesley College and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She exhibited locally at the Boston Museum of Science and the Peabody Essex Museum as well as further afield at the National Sculptors Society in New York City and the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. One of her most notable commissions was for the American Cathedral in Paris, France.
