Make your own Pochade Box:
Spring is almost here and what better way to welcome it than to have your own pochade box ready to capture it when the great outdoors starts to bloom. Pochade boxes are compact studios that are easily transported. The inside of the lid is used as a support for creating a painting or drawing. These boxes are traditionally used for plein air painting but can be used anywhere. They can be mounted on a tripod and they are great for travel. The maximum work surface is quite small, usually not over 12”. It is recommended to dedicate one to either oil paint or water base paints and have it all set to go with your painting supplies inside.
Why not make one for each kind of painting or art you practice? These boxes can be tailored to your own personal style of art making. They can be as simple or as complex as you desire depending on what you include. Having a pochade box already set up and ready to go will inspire you to go out and paint.
