“Personal Favorites”
Marblehead Arts Member Summer Exhibit
June 28–July 27
Opening Reception: Sunday, July 6 · 2:00–4:00 p.m.
The Marblehead Arts Association (MAA) is inviting their artist members to submit their “Personal Favorite” to the annual member summer exhibit, June 28–July 27 with the opening public reception on July 6th, 2:00–4:00 pm.
A “Personal Favorite” may be a piece of art that the artist feels represents something close and connected to their artistic process or it can be a piece of work that has been shown in a previous exhibit.
It can also be a piece of work created where they had caught a moment in time and yet the meaning still resonates, such as photographer Steve Fulghum’s photo of a bird on a windowsill ready to take flight. The photo was taken on a trip to Vienna, many many years ago, where his father had sent him to learn German at age 17. The black & white photo, taken with his then brand new Leica (which he still has) has hung on his dorm room wall in college, apartment wall in grad school and in his words “it just works for me . . . perhaps because it always reminded me of a prison break (from college and grad school).”
The MAA is also inviting the public to come and “vote” on their “Personal Favorite” piece of artwork. From June 28th through July 20th ballots will be available in the Ballroom, Parlor and Dining Room Galleries to fill out and dropped in one of three ballot boxes.
Those voting may also comment on their favorite piece which will be shared with the artists. The top three chosen will be awarded prizes.
Each piece of art in this exhibit has a story to tell and we invite you to share in that story by voting for your “Personal Favorite.”
“Birdhouse” Silent Auction
Marblehead Arts Association Annual Fundraiser
Artisan’s Marketplace, Abbot Hall · July 5th & 6th
Fabulous one-of-a-kind artist-painted birdhouses will be silent auctioned at the Artisan marketplace during the Marblehead Festival of Arts to benefit the Marblehead Arts Association’s education scholarship and other community outreach programs. The birdhouses will be on display in the MAA Gallery Shop until July 4th.
The Marblehead Lighthouse, an “outhouse,” a “Tweet” cottage, “Seafood Shanty” and “Bird Racer” are just some of the themes of these whimsical yet practical birdhouses painted and decorated by local artists.
