January 9 – February 7, 2016
Exciting and diverse work of 13 new Artist Members were shown throughout the Marblehead Arts Association galleries for the month of January, 2016. An opening reception was held on Sunday, January 10. Most of the artists showed a group of works rather than one or two pieces. There was a broad range of media from the Fine Arts category including Oil, Pastel, Collage, Mixed Media and Sculpture.
Also represented in the Craft category were Nantucket baskets and beaded jewelry. The MAA is one of the few Arts Associations that admits Photographers as full Artist members; there was one juried in for 2015 in this group. These artists all underwent the rigorous jury process of the MAA either in the Spring or the Fall of 2015.
It has been a recent tradition at the MAA to offer the galleries to the newly juried Artist members at the start of each year as a way to showcase fresh work that is new to the organization and also to welcome the artists into the MAA fold and introduce them to the membership.
Most of the new artist members in this group are from Marblehead or neighboring North Shore towns. One new artist member is from as far away as Argentina. His local connections brought his work and his desire to be a member to the attention of the MAA.
Below is a list of the 13 new artists, the categories they were juried in for and their media:
Daniel Cardone – Fine Art (pastel)
Margaret Dragon – Craft (Nantucket baskets)
