With the start of a New Year comes the latest exhibit at the Marblehead Arts Association, the New Member Exhibit. This show, on display in the MAA’s first floor galleries and ballroom, is filled with fresh and vibrant works of art by the association’s newest artist members. Heather Johnson Reid, a new member, expressed her excitement for the show, “I was pleased to be juried in to the MAA last spring and have been looking forward to the 2015 new member’s show.” This exhibit, in particular, has a long standing tradition of taking place in January. As the year begins, new members and also new work arrives.
The pieces in this exhibit display a multitude of mediums, photography and craft. These works have been submitted from 22 of the 27 artist members who were juried in during the 2014 year. All of these new members have unique backgrounds and have contributed their own distinguished works of art from hand blown glass to collage to acrylic. Niki Farrell praised the New Member Show and different mediums on display by saying, “I appreciate that the Marblehead Arts Association supported such a wide variety of art that was shown at the exhibit. Such variety not only adds to the diversity of membership, but also fosters an environment where artists can inspire one another.” Another New Member, Amy Hourihan, was also pleased with the Exhibit Opening, “It was a wonderful event to see so many people there and all the other terrific work.”
Many of the artists come from Marblehead but some come from the Midwest, Canada and even as far away as France. In addition some of these artists have formal training from well-known places such as the Acorn Gallery School of Art here in Marblehead, Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston and l’ENSAD, l’Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. The wide range of mediums and styles creates an incredibly lively display in each of the galleries that will be sure to impress any visitor.
The New Member Exhibit will only be up until February 8th 2015, so make sure to stop by soon to view all the new art!
